- Like a lot of other MBA students, Carla Wright-Jukes will
be celebrating her graduation this spring. But unlike most,
her commencement exercises -- from the keynote speaker, to
the degree conferment, to the reception -- will be held online
directory of online courses, accredited online degrees,
continuing education, online training, and online education.
This certainly is not the way Grandma used to do it.
Taking classes over the internet with no face-to-face interaction
is great way of learning. Computers have definitely revolutionized
the way that college students of today learn.
With distance learning there is no longer the need to travel
to get to class. This allows working students, and stay-at-home
mothers the opportunity to complete a degree without drastically
altering their schedules.
Some may take distance learning for credit, to learn a new
skill or just for the simple enjoyment of learning. For whatever
reason, the internet and distance learning has completely
changed the learning process. Traditional universities are
now offering distance learning courses along with the traditional
lecture classes. New universities have been established that
specialize mainly in distance learning. Some well established
places, such as BarnesandNoble.com offer free classes (part
of the class requirement is the purchase of a book).
As a special warning, if the classes will be taken for credit
make sure that the institution is regionally accredited just
as any traditional university should be regionally accredited.
